Michael R. Sullivan

Mike is the majority shareholder of RIC Insurance General Agency, Inc. and related companies. He has 50+ years of experience within the insurance agency system as a producer, manager and owner.  Through personal sales, agency growth, and mergers and acquisitions, Mike has successfully developed two retail agencies and one wholesale agency: Michael R. Sullivan Insurance, NorthWest Insurance Agency, Inc. and RIC Insurance General Agency, Inc.

Mike has taken great pride in his track record of building and managing strong, production-oriented and underwriting agencies through the years. Mike is the consummate entrepreneur, constantly seeking the next deal and focusing with Dennis Stanley and Gary Kitchen, his shareholder partners, on selling the next policy. What started out as an effort to write one policy per day has turned into several significant businesses. Mike’s greatest pride is in the people he has been able to employ, develop and help over the course of his career.

Mike has five children. He and his wife Sandy reside in Santa Rosa, California.


Dennis W. Stanley

Dennis began his insurance career as a producer with NorthWest Insurance Agency in 1986 after a successful career in the lumber business. Dennis acquired ownership in company in 1992 and became Branch Manager of the Fort Bragg retail location. In 1995, Dennis took on the role of Personal Lines Sales Manager for all NorthWest’s retail branches. By 1996, Dennis became the agency’s full-time Sales Manager for all lines of business.  Dennis was instrumental in beginning the NWC Insurance Services business with Allstate as well as providing capital support for what has become RIC today.

Dennis and his wife Debbie have two sons and reside in Windsor, California.


Gary E. Kitchen

Gary’s career spans 29 years. He entered the insurance industry in Sacramento with an MGA: Hoyt/Petersen & Company. During his tenure, Gary was instrumental in helping to establish their nationwide Moving and Storage program. In 1996, TransGuard Insurance Company purchased Hoyt/ Petersen. At TransGuard, Gary was responsible for a nationwide specialty program for Owner Operator Independent Truck Drivers. In 1999, Gary joined Fireman’s Fund Insurance Companies to lead a group tasked with developing and implementing an Internet-based policy management and underwriting system. He joined RIC in 2001 where he developed BOP, Commercial Automobile and Commercial Package products for RIC’s Allstate wholesale platform. Gary was instrumental in bringing the Everest National Workers’ Compensation relationship, the RIC Insurance and Louis T. Mastos & Associates acquisitions, and the Access State Fund Program to current ownership.

Gary obtained his B.S. Degree in Finance and Accounting in 1991 from California State University-Sacramento. Gary and his wife Celeste have four sons and a daughter and reside in Santa Rosa, California.





Jeff Gans

Jeff joined the company in 2015 after working closely with RIC at Nevada Capital Insurance Company. He is an accomplished Property & Casualty Insurance Executive with experience leading complex and challenging underwriting-driven operations. Jeff’s career has been focused on commercial lines, particularly in field and home office leadership roles for several carriers and an MGA. His experience includes standard commercial lines of business, as well as alternative risk transfer, captives, excess and surplus lines, programs and transportation. While most of his career has been in the west, he has also worked in Baltimore, Chicago and Kansas City.

Jeff graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics. He and his wife Nancy have a daughter and live in Reno, Nevada.


Kim McClaran

Kim has been with the company since 2006. She began her career in banking with National Bank of the Redwoods, rising through the ranks to become the CFO. Kim joined NorthWest Insurance Agency, Inc.  as Controller. In 2012, she was promoted to Chief Financial Officer. Kim’s responsibilities were expanded beyond accounting and finance to include IT, Corporate Facilities, Human Resources, Legal Compliance and Risk Management.

Kim graduated from Sonoma State University with a B.A. in Accounting. Kim and her husband Jack have a daughter and son. They live in Santa Rosa, California.


Tom Clansen

Tom joined RIC in 2016. Tom is a talented leader with considerable Surplus Lines experience. He started his career with AIG before moving to General Star Management Company in an underwriting position. After a brief stop with an e-commerce insurance start up, Tom became a wholesale broker with Bliss & Glennon. In 2002, he joined Chubb Custom where he led the Western Region until joining RIC.

Tom is a graduate of California State University, Long Beach with a B.A. in Human Resource management. He also has an MBA in Finance & Marketing from the University of Southern California. Tom and his wife Kathy have two sons and live in Tustin, California.


Garett Kaneko

Garett joined the company in 2016. He is a passionate leader with a background in sales, agency distribution and marketing, with considerable knowledge of commercial lines products. Garett began his career with Liberty Mutual as a commercial lines underwriter in San Diego. In 2007, he transitioned into sales; he was promoted to Territory Manager, managing the SF Bay Area. In 2009, Garett joined Travelers as a Sales Executive and was promoted to Regional Sales Director in 2011.

Garett graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.S. in Management Science. He and his wife Jenny have a son and reside in Danville, California.


Ryan Stanley

Ryan has been with RIC since 2004 where he started as a non-admitted commercial lines underwriter. In 2008, Ryan relocated to lead RIC’s Tustin office. In 2011, he was promoted to Vice President for Non-admitted Underwriting. In this position, he oversaw the development of RIC’s Nevada Capital relationship and the expansion of the program. In 2014, he moved into the Sales and Marketing Department to further develop his knowledge and skill set.

Ryan graduated from Sonoma State University with a B.A. in Wine Marketing. He and his wife Gloria live in Tustin, California.
